♱ The Meskel Organization ♱
The Meskel Organization, a non-profit organization, was created by young adults from the Re’ese Adbarat Debre Selam Kidist Mariam Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church who came together to help the youth understand the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) in their own native language. One of the biggest reasons why children, especially teenagers, leave the Church and the faith altogether is because of the language barrier between Amharic and English. These children do not seem to understand the words that are coming out of the mouths of those who speak Amharic. The Meskel Organization understood this issue and wanted to find a means to contribute positively: teach the children in a language that they can understand. This became one of our goals. Additionally, we understand the importance of education and its effects on the future. As these children are the future of the EOTC, they must be educated not only spiritually, but also academically. Therefore, Meskel wants to foster a community by helping those who struggle with their subjects by offering tutoring sessions. With these goals in mind, The Meskel Organization was officially founded on August 28th, 2024.
The Meskel Organization wants to continue to be the light that most children need in this world, a source of inspiration and help. We want to make a difference so that students can have a bright future and our faith can be appreciated and understood by those who know little about the Orthodox Tewahedo religion.
Offering various services ranging from religious teachings to kirar lessons, The Meskel Organization is an organization destined to help the people. We want to be able to help those who wish to be informed about the faith, those who are curious, and even those who have no idea what the Ethiopian Orthodox Church is. Meskel wants to be there for these people, to give the answers that they want. We also want to be able to give back to the community that helped us become who we are today, allowing us to build the courage and support us throughout our efforts in creating this organization. Not only just serving our local communities, but also helping those in need, especially those in Ethiopia. Just like how the cross guides us toward our faith, The Meskel Organization is destined to guide young individuals toward the faith.
Our mission is to be able to teach young individuals about the EOTC and its holidays in English, overcoming the language barrier that has been placed. By creating posts to commemorate certain church holidays such as Epiphany, The Great Fast, and The Resurrection, Meskel is actively communicating with young adults who may not seem to understand the importance of these holidays. These posts would provide a detailed expiation for the holiday, allowing the audience to understand and take in what it is that we are celebrating.
Another mission of the Meskel Organization is to help students who are struggling or having certain complications with their academics. We have chosen dedicated tutors who have dedicated their time to helping these students understand the concepts they are struggling with and leading them to success. Here at Meskel, we acknowledge the importance of excelling in school and how it allows students to have a bright future and dream big. Our mission is to be the light that draws individuals closer to the right path.
